A research paper on the "Wise Use" movement from Public Eye—a public interest research groups that investigates political subcultures and their activities. The Wise Use movement is a nationwide network of industry lobbies and grassroots front groups that originated during the 80's as an offshoot of the "Sagebrush Rebellion" in rural America. They are known for their militantly antienvironmental and anti-government ideologies and confrontational tactics.
This page from the Minnesota based W.J. McCabe Chapter of the Isaak Walton League has numerous articles and resources regarding the activities of the Wise Use movement and its various antienvironmental faces. The Isaak Walton League was founded in Chicago in 1922 by a group of anglers who saw the growing threat to America's watersheds and fisheries from water pollution and other industry activities and organized to fight it. The elimination of any and all protections for them is a primary objective for the Wise Use movement. The League is named after the 17th century author of the classic work, The Compleat Angler.
